What is Pearlium?

Pearlium® is a scientifically blended multi-element supplement which is rich in calcium.  Calcium and a panel of naturally occurred trace elements are extracted from fresh water oysters containing pearls using a patented extraction technology.

What is so unique about Pearlium?

Studies show that not all calcium supplements are the same. There are two major forms of calcium in the market: carbonate and citrate. Calcium carbonate, the most popular form, is highly insoluble in the intestine; therefore, the percentage available for absorption is very low. Calcium citrate is a soluble form of calcium; however, its absorption efficiency is contentious among research groups. One reason could be that calcium citrate is not that soluble in the intestine.

Consuming excessive amounts of calcium has been linked to severe side effects such as heart problems and kidney stones. Research has shown that calcium alone is not efficient in promoting bone health. For optimal results, elements such as magnesium and zinc are important to maximize the effects of calcium and minimize its side effects. Vitamin D has two major functions: increase calcium absorption and development and maintenance bones and teeth.

Pearlium® is a patent pending calcium formula consisting of a blend of highly soluble and absorbable elements and vitamin D. The key elements are calcium, magnesium and zinc. The ratio of the key elements is scientifically calculated. Pearlium® also contains a group of trace elements which are known to be essential nutrients. To-date, Pearlium® is the most advance formula for supporting bone health.

Why is calcium important?

More than 99% of calcium in the body is in bones. The bones contain 80-90 % calcium. It is obvious that calcium is important for bone health. This element is also important for a host of important bodily functions such as maintaining the heart and nerve functions.

Can we get enough calcium we need from our diet?

In theory we can, however, very few of us maintain a balanced diet. Therefore, calcium supplementation, better yet, elemental supplementation becomes necessary.

There are so many forms of calcium in the market, which one is better for me?

The market is flooded with many brands and forms of calcium. However, the most common is calcium carbonate and calcium citrate. Calcium carbonate, the basic ingredient of chalk, is highly insoluble and therefore, not very absorbable. Calcium citrate is highly water soluble; however, its absorption is debated in the scientific community. There are also calcium supplements which are fortified with magnesium, zinc and vitamin D. However, most of these elements are present in their insoluble forms; therefore, absorbability is questionable. Although vitamin D facilitates the absorption of calcium, the ratios of the elements have not been evaluated critically; therefore, the performance of these products is hard to substantiate.

What form of Vitamin D is good for me?

There are two forms of Vitamin D; Vitamin D2 also known as ergocalciferol and Vitamin D3 also known as cholecalciferol. These two forms of Vitamin D are not equal. Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) is four times more potent, more biologically active and more effective in raising the blood levels of Vitamin D than Vitamin D2 . Clinically, vitamin D3 has been found to be more effective in maintaining bone density and prevent fractures. Also, with age one loses the ability to utilize Vitamin D2 but there is no such change of Vitamin D3 utilization with age. Pearlium® contains an optimum amount of Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) in each capsule to ensure the efficacy of Pearlium®.

What is recommended dosage for calcium?

The following is the recommended dietary allowance (RDA) for calcium as published by National Academy of Sciences:

Infants
• Age 0 to 6 months: 210 mg
• Age 7 months to 1 year: 270 mg

Children
• Age 1 to 3 years: 500 mg
• Age 4 to 8 years: 800 mg

Women
• Age 9 to 18 years: 1300 mg
• Age 19 - 50 years: 1000 mg
• Over Age 51 years: 1200 mg
Pregnancy
• Under Age 19: 1300 mg
• Age 19 and Over: 1000 mg
Lactating
• Under Age 19: 1300 mg
• Age 19 and Over: 1000 mg

Men
• Age 9 to 18 years: 1300 mg
• Age 19 - 50 years: 1000 mg
• Over Age 51 years: 1200 mg

Please note that these recommendations did not specify the form of calcium to be consumed. The amount of calcium required will likely be lower when a highly absorbable form of calcium is used.

Why should I take Pearlium®?

Pearlium® is scientifically formulated using our patent pending “Pharmaceutical Platform Technology” or PPT® to optimize efficacy. Besides, calcium, Pearlium® also contains adequate amounts of vitamin D and elemental magnesium, zinc and trace amounts of essential elements which are optimized to support bone health.

How safe and reliable is Pearlium®?

Every batch of Pearlium® has been rigorously tested for heavy metals, pesticides, volatile organics, microbiological contaminants and food allergens. The potency and purity is tested by our own lab and third party laboratories to verify the label claim.

How would you recommend taking Pearlium®?

Pearlium® is available in two forms; Regular strength and Extra strength.

Regular: Two to four capsules one to two times a day. It is preferred if you take it with food.

Extra: Three to six capsules one to two times a day. Also, take it with food. The best time to take it would be at breakfast and supper.

What happens if I don’t take enough calcium daily?

Calcium is essential for healthy bones and teeth. If you don’t have enough calcium in your diet, calcium may be depleted from your bones. You may be exposing yourself to the risk of having a medical condition known as osteoporosis; a condition characterized by lower bone density and increased bone sponginess. Individuals with osteoporosis are prone to bone fractures.

Is it true that women need more calcium than men?

No, both men and women require adequate amount of calcium in their diet for growth and maintenance. However, osteoporosis is more prevalent in post-menopausal women than men. Women with osteoporosis have calcium and magnesium deficiency. Therefore, it is very important that you include calcium and other essential elements in your diet regularly to prevent osteoporosis.
